Puppets are a wonderful bridging tool for teaching and inter-acting with young people with those who have difficulties communicating.





WHO AM I?

I am a fabric engineer with many years experience designing and producing wearable structures and 3D fabric costumes., with a passion to create fabric puppets and soft toys.




It would give me great pleasure to share my knowledge and experience, demonstrating how to create these inanimate creatures to use as a communication tool.






This course is not about learning the general rules to make any puppet, but to gain the knowledge and skills to create this specific glove puppet, DUCKIE.

How will I make the pattern?

You will receive a downloadable pattern on graph paper which you will print or copy to scale.




Will I be able to follow your instructions?

Drawing on my knowledge and experience this puppet has been designed to be made a simply as possible.




I have never made a puppet or toy before, will I be able to construct this puppet?

If you have ever constructed a garment and work precisely, you will be able to construct this puppet.




BASIC EQUIPMENT


Printing paper A4; pencils; marking pens; tailors' chalk; scissors [paper; fabric and sharps]; ruler; tape measure.

MATERIALS


Some of the materials needed- fake fur/ velour; nylon lycra; cotton lycra; thread; sash cord or woven rope; compressed batting; animal eyes; polyester stuffing.




SEWING MACHINE


This puppet can be sewn entirely by hand or assembled on a basic machine.
